In the ancient world, reverence of the otherworldly was made tangible in many ways. Standing stones were great megaliths of devotion dragged across the land to a sacred site. Pillars or totems were erected and thought to mark territory, identity, or a sacred site. Venerated trees were also significant. There were also Wëoh, which were shrines situated on ancient routeways, accessible to travellers.

Underneath the "crude pillars" of Spaghetti Junction, our modern monument to wayfinding, one such routeway was anciently trodden.
